Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS) is extending the deadline for the registration of the first batch of its own medical degree (MD) programme to Nov 21.
Vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Mohamad Abd Razak said the decision to extend the deadline was made following the overwhelming response to the programme.
Dr Mohamad said the Kepala Batas-based university college had received many inquiries after the programme from candidates and parents.
"We need time to process the applications as we have to carefully vet the candidates' qualifications. Those shortlisted will be called to attend an interview before they are accepted," he said after closing the Professional and Personal Development camp for the first 41 students of the MD AUCMS programme in Bukit Hijau recreational park, here.
AUCMS Medical Faculty dean Dr Badrul Akmal Hisham Md Yusoff was also present.
{AF}Those interested in enrolling in the programme should visit www.allianzeunicollege.edu.my, call the toll-free hotline 1-800-882 015, e-mail
or send an SMS with AUCMS ENQName,Programme to 36828. Walk-in applicants are also welcome at the college main campus in Bertam, Kepala Batas.{/AF}
The AUCMS has a total quota of 150 students for the programme.
The minimum requirement for enrolment is a pass in any government matriculation programme, Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia, A-Level, AUCMS Science foundation programme or any foundation programme recognised by the Higher Education Ministry with CGPA of at least 3.0.
The candidate must also have obtained at least a "B" for Science subjects in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia.
The five-year programme is fully accredited by the MMC and MQA and conducted at the AUCMS main campus.
Dr Mohamad said the Professional and Personal Development camp was developed to prepare the AUCMS students for the "real world" as medical doctors.
"Unlike any other induction programme, we have tailored this five-day event to fully prepare the students to not only strive in their studies but more importantly, to become a fully functioning doctor that cares for the patients," he said.
At the camp, the students got to know one another and took part in activities that challenged their emotional and physical strengths and developed team spirit.
