PPD Camp 2 MD UKM-AUCMS
PPD Camp 2 MD UKM-AUCMS was held at Recreation Camp Raja Intan Suraya, Sg. Siput, Perak on 13 to 17 June, 2011. A total of 57 students from MD UKM, MD USU and Diploma in Medical Sciences participated in the program.
As early as 10 am all the students had assembled and eager to leave for the camp. The bus trip to Sungai Siput was smooth and easy and in no time at all the team reached Camp Raja Intan Suraya. Once at camp, the process begins with registration and followed by opening remark by Dr. Badrul Akmal Hisham, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine AUCMS. After a few briefing sessions from the trainers on the program the participants were then divided into several groups.
Participants were exposed to several indoor and outdoor activities that are challenging both physically and mentally. In one of the activities, the participants were asked to lie afloat on the surface of Perak River and simply free their mind from anything and everything in the whole wide world. The thrilling pleasure of being buoyant in a river and free from all the stress and tension is definitely one unforgettable experience to all of them. This whole experience in the camp is hoped to be able to develop the students at personal and professional level. In the closing ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dato Dr. Mohammad Abdul Razak put emphasis on how important it is for the students to strengthen their spirit and self-esteem in order to face many challenges in life.
“What is being stressed in this camp is moral values that doctors should have and all of us future doctors are being reminded to uphold good moral values when we practice medicine later.” according to Zulzhafi Abd Razak, one of the MD UKM student who participated in the camp. In various sessions we were asked to focus on values such as humility, sincerity, honesty, brotherhood and respect for others. These values are actually in all of us but most of us conveniently practice only some of the values and did not truly internalize the values. Zulzhafi was also very impressed of the camp commandant dedication in carrying out the camp activities.
