AUCMS: Students to take education one step further

A00578591Medical education provider Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS) aims to encourage more students from Sarawak and Sabah to further their studies at its university-college in Penang via various incentives.

AUCMS — which specialises in medicine and allied health science courses — has lined up several monetary incentives to encourage East Malaysian students to consider delving into the medical sector as a possible career choice.

In order to do so, the group’s senior marketing manager and counsellor, Norzahizan Ismail, underscored the suggestion for Sarawakian and Sabahan students to break their barriers and step outside their comfort zones to pursue their tertiary education.

“When we held our open interviews previously in East Malaysia, everybody asked if we had a campus here (in East Malaysia). I said to them, ‘Why not travel over to Penang to further your studies?’ she told The Borneo Post in an interview yesterday.

“Sometimes, it is necessary to realise that you need to take a step further because there could be so many opportunities out there,” affirmed the senior marketing manager.

Norzahizan was in Kuching to represent AUCMS at the ‘Jom Masuk U’ event, being held today and tomorrow (March 19 and 20) at the Permata Exhibition Centre, Kuching.

To further encourage Sarawak and Sabah students, she revealed that AUCMS was giving out free flight rebates to these students flying from East Malaysia to Penang for their 2011 intake.

“This was the brainchild of our chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Zainuddin Wazir, who wanted to reduce the financial burdens faced by these students.

“They will be reimbursed the full amount of their flight expenses once they come over to our campus in Penang and register with us,” she affirmed. The maximum amount that would be reimbursed was RM300. This was on the back of direct flights now being available from Kuching to Penang.

Apart from that, Norzahizan revealed an additional academic incentive for AUCMS students, whereby every ‘A’ secured in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) would entitle its students to a rebate of RM500 from their fees.

“Exceptional students with straight ‘A’s will see a RM5,000 rebate from their education fees.”

In addition, the university-college also offers an incentive for students who are active in sports. Local students interested to check out AUCMS can do so at the ‘Jom Masuk U’ event to get further details.
