“We would definitely want to come here again, if we were given the chance. This camp is so much fun plus it teaches us how to survive in a jungle,” .
That was basically the feedback received from a few of the students who went for the Leadership Camp that was held recently at Synergy Farm, Tasek Gelugor.
One of the participants from the School of Physiotherapy, Nurul Izyantie Norhadzar, said that she enjoyed being at the camp during the weekend as she gets all the advantages that she could not get in classroom lessons.
“Sometimes you get bored going to class and listening to lectures everyday, but by getting involved with this kind of outdoor activity, it could also inculcate in you some ‘extra quality’ like improving your leadership skills and creative thinking,” she said.
Claiming herself as a member of team ‘Strawberry’ where all her team members were all girls, Izyantie said that the camp taught her to be creative as they must only use what is given to them to survive during the whole programme.
Earlier, each of the groups received some tools that were useful for them in the camp for example whistle , rope, marble, toothpicks and compass.
Director of Academic Affairs, Dato Dr Jamjan Rajikan said that this leadership camp was specially formulated not only for the students but also for the staff.
“As we are trying hard to produce students who are active and aggressive, we too want to train our staff to become multi-talented, and not only heroes in their area of expertise,” he said.
He said that this programme is an ongoing event in the AUCMS calendar and by the end of this year they wanted to make sure that every student and staff were all trained.
Dato Jamjan added that for the beginning, the Academic Department, with the help from other supporting departments like the Student Affairs and Human Resource, will train all the students and staff. Soon, each of the schools will have to come out with their own module to teach the students.
“We want to ensure that once our students graduate from AUCMS, they will become students who are capable in all things, only then they will become marketable, and the same thing applies to the staff,” he added.
The activities that were organized throughout the programme were treasure hunt, group exercise and some games.
