What an interactive way of handling an Education and Career Talk, although it was a small event. The panel managed to answer all the questions asked.
Not only that, at the event organized by the Sales and Marketing Department on 27 January at Studio B Waziria Medical Square, they put in extra effort by explaining each of the courses and the career pathway besides suggesting the courses that are highly in demand in the job world nowadays.
About 30 teachers, who are all the School Counselors and about ten students from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) were satisfied when their questions regarding the courses offered by AUCMS and the entry requirements were answered.
The session became more intense (in a fun way) when a concerned teacher asked on behalf of the parents about the study loans that are given to each of the students who wish to further their education here.
The teacher, at MRSM, Haslina Abdul Aziz said that sometimes there are some private colleges which promised the students that they will be given a full loan until they graduated but in the end some of the students had to withdraw due to financial problems.
“In the pamphlet or brochures it is stated that the students will get full loan but in the middle of their courses the students learn that they are only given half of the loan,” she said.
She added by saying that it is good that AUCMS organized this kind of programme so that everything is made clear both to the teachers and students who came.
Haslina, who was the only teacher who brought her students, said that she felt lucky as her students got the chance to ask questions to the panel.
“I brought along my students as I felt that they should come here and listen for themselves, and if they had any inquiries, this was the right place to ask where all the heads in charge of all the courses are present.
“My student was once asked the difference between a neurosurgeon and a neurologist. I bet now she knows the answer, that a neurosurgeon is someone who performs a neurologic surgery where else a neurologist is someone who does the examinations and laboratory diagnostic tests,” she added.
There were short but brief talks given by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr Mohamad Abd Razak, Director of Health Services, Dr. Ismail Ahmad, and also the Director of Allied Health Sciences, Prof Dato' Dr Zahari Che Dan.
One of the significant issues talked was by Prof Dato’ Dr Zahari. Besides talking about the facilities provided to the students in helping them to better their studies here, he went on elaborating about the job in high demand in the medical field, which is nursing.
“We encourage the students to study Diploma in Nursing because, as a medical college we have identified that nurses are the most wanted personnel, not only in our country, but in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Australia, Singapore, and many more.
“And due to that, at AUCMS, the medium of instruction is English so that it could train them not only if they are to further their studies overseas but to meet their work requirement,” he said.
Dato Zahari also advised the teachers, who are also parents, to encourage their students and children to study in this field and become medical practitioners.
He said that although now we are moving towards modern technology where everything is made easy to humans, but people still get sick despite modern medication.
The acting Director of Sales and Marketing, Ahmad Fauzi Abd Jalil, gave his talk regarding the incentive scheme that will be given to students with excellent academic results, students who perform well in extracurricular activities, and also children of school teachers and staff.
“We want to encourage students to study at AUCMS. Therefore my team and I have come out with a campaign ‘1 Family 1 Doctor’ where we train our students to become doctors or medical practitioners and they can help their family members or friends.
He added by saying that the objectives of the scheme are mainly to motivate all the students to have good grades in their academic areas and be actively involved in extracurricular activities.
Ahmad Fauzi, on behalf of AUCMS, encouraged the students to choose Medical and Health Science as their first choice when they finished their secondary education.
“At AUCMS, we aim to create a society that practices healthy lifestyles and is concerned about the importance of health care, and to do that we first start by preparing our students to fulfill our objectives,” he said.
