Practice make perfect!
It was just an activity the students from AUCMS filled in during their free time while studying at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Medan.
“Well, that’s what you get if you have interest and put on extra hardwork,” commented the team leader of Team USU08, Afifah Aqilah Abdul Malik .
She said that she and her team members have been playing the Spanish football since their first year in USU from 2008 but never have the 1st place, until the tournament recently.
“We were so shocked to be announced as the winner of Dato’ Dr Zainuddin Shield, Futsal Tournament 2010 for the women category and this is our first time after winning the 3rd place during a futsal competition organized by the Malaysian Student Association in Medan,” she said.
Afifah told that at first she and her friends were playing for fun then they started to build up their confidence and joined began participating in some competition to obtain experience by competing with other group.
“Since all of us had been playing for nearly two years, we know each other quite well and each of us have their own skills so it’s easier for us to practice. Normally before the game we would practice and as the game draws nearer we double up our training,” she added.
She shared her happiness and congratulated her other team members and Afifah said that the prize that they won, which is RM300, will be used to pay future rental of the futsal court for their practice and to buy some medicine in case of injuries.
Meanwhile as for the man’s team who travel all the way from AUCMS Kangar campus, H-team won the first prize.
“We feel so happy to win the tournament and it makes our travel worth it. We also brought our classmates to support us during the game and thanks to them we had won,” said the H-team leader.
He said that they will keep the medal and use the money to ‘makan-makan’ with the team and their supporters.
The Dato’ Dr Zainuddin Shield, Futsal Tournament 2010 obviously was a success as the organizers received many participants. There were 14 teams for men the male, 6 teams for female category and 1 from the staff .
AUCMS Deputy CEO (Admin), Sandrasekaran Murugaiah said that the tournament was organized at the right time where the college will soon be establishing its extracurricular activity,which will become compulsory for the students.
“We want our students to be equally active in academic and curricular, therefore by organizing this event we can mix all of them together including the staff,” he said.
All in all, he said that the result of the activity was a success and suggested that it could be done as a yearly event and maybe soon AUCMS can have its own futsal court.
He congratulated the committee of which all of them are students and he said that it could be claimed as the student project.
