He was just using a normal model of Nokia handphone, but by registering with Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS), Mohamad Sharul Nizam Harun had won himself an Apple I-phone.
This new student from School of Pharmacy was shocked when his name was announced as the winner for AUCMS lucky draw for the October 2010 intake and so were his parents.
“I did not bother to stand up when my name was called because I don’t believe it, but when they call my name for the second time I was saying to myself it must be me since they mentioned it twice and it was exactly my name,” he said happily.
Mohamad Sharul, 18 said that he had been using his old handphone for quite sometime and now he can change to a new handphone and decided to give his ‘old’ one to his sister who accompanied him during the registration day at AUCMS Waziria Medical Square, Kepala Batas, Penang.
Being the eldest of four sibling, Sharul said that he wanted to be a good role model to his other siblings and he is determine to study hard for himself and his family.
Meanwhile, as for Rosfadila Mohd Yussoff, she felt very happy that she can help to ease the burden of her family when she won a laptop during the lucky draw.
“My father had been planning to buy me a laptop for me to do my homework and revision but now it seems like I had save his money.
“They were calling out names for the lucky draw winner and among the prizes presented were AUCMS
T-shirt, sunshades, pen and motivational book but my name was not called, suddenly they announced me as the second grand prize winner,” she said.
Fifth child out of twelve siblings, Rosfadila mentioned that all her family members were here to help her for her registration.
AUCMS Deputy CEO (Admin), Sandrasekaran Murugaiah said that those two prizes were the promises that AUCMS had given to the student who had register as a student here.
“We had conducted a roadshow on 25th September 2010 and we had promised those who register as our student will win two grand prizes, an Apple I-phone and a laptop and therefore we would like to keep our promises to them.
“AUCMS acknowledged that in today’s student life, technology plays an important role as a tool to make our life easier so by giving the prizes we hope that they can use its advantage for their studies and to connect with family,” he said.
He congratulated the winners and said that all of them who enrolled as AUCMS student had made the right decision and it is hope that they will study hard academically and get active in extracurricular activities organized by AUCMS too.
“AUCMS wants to produce quality students as much as we can so that they are marketable once they graduate and we will train them during their learning period here,” he said.
He added by saying that for the October 2010 intake most of the registration came from the School of Physiotherapy, School of Pharmacy and School of Medical Sciences.
