Curricular activities is a must to obtain a diploma-AUCMS

Students who enrolled at Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS) will soon have to pass three units of curricular activities before they can graduate with a diploma.

This announcement was made by its chairman Dato’ Dr. Zainuddin Wazir and will be implemented starting this October intake.

“We will be introducing varieties of extracurricular activities for the student to choose based on their interest. It can also be from a uniform based activities such as Red Crescent society, Fire and Rescue Team Cadets and Army Regiment.

“As for club activities, AUCMS is currently offering Entrepreneurs club, Arts & Cultural club, Muslim Student Association and Community Services among others and sport based activities such as Netball, Rugby and Recreation and Water activities,” he said.

Dr. Zainuddin said that all these programs are consistent with the requirement from the Ministry of Higher Education since the module for each of the program will help to create quality students once they graduated.

He added by saying that not only the student will learn about the origin and history of the program that they joined, but it will also teach them to manage themselves and be a time management which is very important as they are future medical practitioners.

These are soft-skills that cannot be taught in classroom.

“Medical practitioners, besides their role of giving services in terms of medicine and the wellbeing to the community, they are also someone who we will listen to and look for in time and medical need, therefore they should have all the positive attributes,” he said.

He mentioned that by joining the extracurricular activities it will also help to create a confident student besides possessing soft skills where it can be use every time they have to liaise with their patients or clients.

“The module taught in the program is capable to prepare a student once they were about to perform their internship or into the workplace,” he said in a press conference during the AUCMS Hari Raya Open House.

The event was held at AUCMS Waziria Medical Square in Kepala Batas and was attended by about 1200 staff and students.

Among those present were were Tuanku Syed Faizudin Putra Tuanku Syed Sirajudin Jamalullail and his consort Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is the president of AUCMS, and also Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Abdul Rahman Abbas and his consort Toh Puan Majimor Shariff.

Various types of Malay foods for Hari Raya celebration such as chicken rendang, ketupat, satay, nasi lemak and ais kacang were served along with performance by the student and staff.
