Soon-to-be AUCMS varsity building its own hospital

KEPALA BATAS: The Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS) here, which will soon be elevated to university college status, is set to become the country’s first private college to have its own hospital.

Its chairman Datuk Dr Zainuddin Md Wazir said the college would invest over RM100mil into the project, which would be ready by the end of next year.

DSC00950“The hospital will have an initial 200 beds. It will be upgraded to 1,000 beds later. It will also generate between 5,000 to 8,000 jobs.”

“Priority will be given to our students who have completed their courses to work with us,” he said after breaking fast with 1,500 students, staff and Muslims in the neighbourhood at the Dewan Milenium here.

The hospital would focus on heart and lung surgeries as well as cancer treatment.

He said the state-of-the-art hospital, to be built on a 2ha plot of land, was part of its master plan to establish an international medical hub in Kepala Batas.

He added that AUCMS also planned to open a campus for hospitality and medical tourism as well as a sports science academy in Bertam by 2013.

Dr Zainuddin said with the university college status, AUCMS would offer first degree courses by December.

From next year, he said, the college would offer Masters and PhD programmes.

The Regent of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail and his consort the Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah, who is AUCMS president, graced the event.

The college gave out RM1,000 each to five mosques and RM500 each to four suraus here.

It also launched a fund for the Pakistan flood victims by contri-buting RM5,000.
