Lords of the jungle

To change someone in a blink is practically impossible so it’s a  wonder how even a three day workshop could ever hope to achieve just that. How do you transform someone from having a shy demeanor to having the confidence to speak in public and express their views?

‘Train the Trainer’(TtT) is a workshop designed  not just to improve the individual's confidence levels but  to enhance their interpersonal and teamwork skills according to the Human Resource Department from Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS).

The TtT chief instructor Qamal Malieq Abdullah oversaw several indoor and outdoor activities to test participants abilities both physically and mentally.

“During their first day in the workshop, we explored concepts around the principles of learning and planning, and whereas on the next day they had to do some practical exercises based on these lessons at Bukit Hijau, Kedah,” he said.

There, he went on to explain,  the groups were giving the challenge of surviving and that required them grasping basic jungle surviving techniques. Participants  were then divided into two groups of between four to five members with their first assignment being the setting up and dismantling of their tents.

“The reason why I did that was basically to see how each individual and group managed their work, and whether they preferred to do it alone or together as a team,” he said.

He also said that he felt happy to help create not only quality staff but to identify strong and future leaders who could play pivotal roles in transferring these skills to the students of the college, and thus contribute significantly to the growth and expansion of AUCMS for many years to come.

The program succeeded beyond expectations in improving team spirit , and tangibly demonstrated by each groups excellent final day presentations on topics of their choice.

Management Executive Nurul Izzati Rahmat said she now feels more confident after attending TtT.

“Besides getting to know some of my colleagues better, it had helped me boost my level of confidence and injected some ‘oomph’ to my outlook which I can now apply in useful ways in my career I hope, ” she excitedly extolled.
